What You Need To Know About TDL 180029 & Worksheet S-10

Find me on:

DEADLINE EXTENDED AGAIN.pngOn October 20, 2017, CMS issued another Technical Direction Letter (TDL) extending the deadline for all IPPS hospitals to submit revised or initial FFY 2014 and 2015 Worksheet S-10’s to January 2, 2018.  Southwest Consulting Associates confirmed this directly with CMS' Division of Acute Care and is monitoring the CMS website for a posted notice, which CMS also stated would be available shortly.  Until the official notice is posted, please contact your MAC for additional information.

TDL 180029 in short:

Grants an extension from October 31, 2017 until January 2, 2018 for all Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) hospitals to resubmit certain Worksheet S-10 data.  [The] Initial deadline had been extended to October 31, 2017.  Amended FY 2014 and FY 2015 cost reports, due to revised or initial submissions of Worksheet S-10, must be received by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) on or before January 2, 2018.

This second extension comes on the heels of Transmittal 11 that made a number of revisions to the instructions for reporting data on cost report Worksheet S-10.  The original deadline (per a notice on the CMS website and Transmittal 1863) to submit FY 2014 and FY 2015 cost report Worksheet S-10's was extended from September 30, 2017 to October 31, 2017 due to public health emergencies following multiple hurricanes.

We encourage you to submit your Worksheet S-10 data as soon as it is ready and not wait until the January 2 deadline to ensure your submissions are received and accepted.  Waiting until the deadline will not provide you a buffer in case an issue is found in your cost report filing and your submission is rejected.

Finally, you can obtain specific instructions from your MAC regarding how to send in your revised cost report, whether that be a reopening or an amended cost report that has not previously been settled, etc.

We've heard from a few of you that the extra time is good news.  What are your thoughts on the second extension?  Was it desperately needed, a pleasant surprise you will take advantage of or unnecessary because you were on track to submit by the October 31st deadline?
